Perform Activity for Truck Parking Information Systems

As part of the 2020 ATRI annual survey, the commercial vehicle driver survey component found that drivers ranked truck parking as the highest need.

The truck parking shortage is estimated to cost drivers $4,600 per year, according to the American Trucking Associations.

Truck parking is recognized as a critical issue in the safe and efficient movement of goods along our highways as truck drivers frequently are not able to find adequate, safe parking for rest purposes. The project activity will have two main objectives: 1) progress truck parking research and implementation within Texas by testing multiple truck parking sensor technologies at existing Receiving Agency safety rest areas; and 2) disseminate via message sign truck parking space availability information to truck drivers in advance of the selected test Receiving Agency safety rest areas.
